In March 2020 MWM was a startup in a transition phase, growing from 30 to 70 employees in 12 months, raising a Series B of 50 millions Euros right a few days after I joined, and switching from a music only company to:
“The Adobe of mobile creativity Apps.”
I feel lucky to have witness that moment in a startup, the scale up stage. Near infinite resources and possibilities, dreams coming true and changes happening every week. I recruited more than one person a month for a year, and onboarding that many people while staying productive and building up is no easy task. Especially when you’re restructuring the entire company and changing the product strategy, creating entire new verticals, new teams and all of it during covid related lockdowns and mass remote work.
The first few months I splitted my time betweens Apps & Games while recruiting non-stop, and then when the game team started to reach 8+ I switched full time on the gaming side, following the design and production process of many prototypes and kick-starting a few productions that looked promising.
40+ prototypes created
All Key Performing Indicators improving very quickly
15 MWM employees recruited for Apps, Games and other teams
Multiple promising games productions under way
Strong tech & tools foundation
Processes for research, innovation and prototyping
The performance from the team is really showing great promises, and I cannot wait to see what will come out of the MWM Game Studio!
In less than a year we built a fully operational game development studio with 11 team members, with strong technological foundations and precise processes to prototype and start productions super quickly.
The studio is still growing and will ship its first hits very soon, in the meantime you can look at some of our early work below.
